

Spencer Aston is a freelance trumpet player and teacher in the Boston
metropolitan area. He currently holds positions at the
Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA and the South Shore Conservatory
in Hingham, MA. In addition to his teaching load, Spencer
performs regularly in
the greater Boston area at various schools, churches, and concert
venues. He is a founding member of the Fenway Quintet and is
currently planning its 2008-2009 season of concerts and
performance. During the summer of
2007, Spencer was co-principal trumpet with the Opera in the Ozarks
Festival
Orchestra in Eureka Springs, AR.
Spencer grew up in Lake Orion, MI and began playing the
trumpet at age 10. He graduated in 2004 with a BM in Trumpet
Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of
Music (CCM) and completed his MM in Trumpet Performance from the
University of New Mexico in May of 2006. While in New Mexico,
Spencer was a member of the New Mexico Brass Quintet and played extra
trumpet with local orchestras such as the New Mexico Symphony and San
Juan Symphony. Currently, Spencer is working towards his Doctor
of Musical Arts at Boston University.
As a soloist, Spencer was featured with the New
England Brass Band in December of 2007 and the Sandia High School
Wind Ensemble in February of 2006. He
has also performed all across the United States, Europe, and Asia in
competitions and recitals. Spencer was a member of the Boston
University Trumpet Ensemble that was runner up in the 2007 National
Trumpet Competition. In April of 2006,
as a member of the
New Mexico Brass Quintet, Spencer had the good fortune of participating
in
their 10-day tour of China as guest artists of the Beijing Conservatory
of Music. While in China, Spencer gave a masterclass and
presented a solo recital for trumpet students from all over the country.
Other musical interests include teaching and
conducting. During his undergraduate studies at Cincinnati,
Spencer was the assistant conductor for the CCM preparatory brass choir
for the 2003-2004 academic year. While in Albuquerque, he was
fortunate enough to explore both of these fields as musical staff at
Sandia High School and faculty member of the New Mexico School of Music.
Spencer's primary teachers have included Terry Everson,
Alan Siebert, Philip Collins, and Jeff Piper.
